Scriptural Touchstones

Editing our Self Talk

Valentine’s Day is around the corner, where the world sets aside one day to celebrate romantic love. God’s idea is to love one another every day. “This is My commandment, love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12, NKJV). This is based on loving people the way God loves us. As a point of fact, few of us understand God’s love for us, and so our love capacity runs dry from time to time.

The call to love continues. “So a lawyer responded to

Jesus’ question and said, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself’” (Luke 10:27, NKJV). This commandment originates back in the days of Moses. In other words, we have to learn to love ourselves in order to love one another.

This starts with learning to see ourselves as God sees us. We may think we have failed in our career; God sees this as a redirection. We may think we don’t measure up; God sees what He put in us. We may live with fears; God sees beyond the fears. This starts with asking God how He sees us and our circumstances.

The second part of learning to love ourselves is learning to say things out of mouth that line up with what God says about us. We see this in the Healing Rooms routinely. Proverbs says, “You are snared by the words of your mouth; You are taken by the words of your mouth” (Proverbs  6:2). We can’t say sentences like, “Nothing good ever happens to me.” God says, “Everything works together for good” (See Romans 8:28). We need to edit out, “I’ll never have enough.” The truth is, “His divine power has give to us all things that pertain to life and godliness…” (see 2 Peter 1:3).  We may say out of our mouth, “I’m afraid of what might happen.” The truth is, “I have not been given a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.” Some might say, “God can’t love me after what I’ve done.” The truth is, “God demonstrates His own love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (see Romans 5:8).

How many of us have stayed on track with our New Year’s Resolutions? Instead of chalking that up as hopeless or pie in the sky, let us say, (out loud), “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).

Let’s start loving ourselves by getting the words coming out of our mouths in agreement with the things God says about us. This then will allow us to line up with the truth of His unlimited love for us. “…the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (see Romans 5:5). As we walk in God’s truth about His love for us, our love tanks get filled up, and we can start loving those around us out of the overflow. This lends itself back to God’s plan for Valentine’s Day 24/7. This Valentine’s Day, get filled up with God’s love and pour out to all those around you with generosity, kind words, and kind deeds.

God’s Answered Prayer

One of the appointments for a visitor addressed the concern the individual had about one of her children. The appointment brought assurance that God was aware of the concern and was working on behalf of the individual. The team also took time to introduce the woman to the concept of decreeing the words in scripture regarding God’s promises for children over her own children. This is often a new concept to people and Silicon Valley Healing Rooms has developed a Hand Out on how to do this. Anyone is welcome to ask for this teaching on Declaring and Decreeing.

One team member saw a woman in a cave trying to navigate the turns till she saw light and a way out. The prayer partner also saw a woman in the shadow walking into the light.  She added the verse, “Keep walking with the Lord and He will give you more revelation and knowledge” (Ephesians 1:7). The woman came in with her prayer requests seeking God’s wisdom. She felt convinced that God knew how she felt and would be with her in making the decisions she needed to make. She left feeling encouraged.

The prayer teams took to God prayer requests concerning depression, decisions about moving, retirement decisions, marriage issues, wayward adult children, direction for dealing with conflict in relationships, breaking curses, lawsuit resolution, chronic fatigue, bi-polar diagnosis, forgiveness of people that continue to be hurtful, hysterectomy surgery, dietary concerns, regaining hearing, knee pain, anxiety, cancer diagnosis, and freedom from COVID.
