Invitation to Pray with SVHR August 16, 2022 & Newsletter

Partnering Tools for Healing

Last Open Hours we talked about partnering with God for our healing. We looked at speaking life with our words, mirroring Christ’s behavior in our behavior, and remembering how God sees us.  Today, we will look at Communion, our Identity in Christ, and the carrying resurrection power in our bodies.

  1. Communion

Jesus initiated Communion at the Last Supper. He took the bread and said it was his body broken for us. Then He took the cup and said it was His blood shed for us. None of that made sense to the disciples that night. They started to grasp its meaning over time. But two thousand years later, we are still learning to appropriate it to our bodies. We understand there’s a link to communion and healing. But the specifics are still a mystery. Nonetheless, it’s a tool. Let us start with what we know and believe and ask God to reveal more.*

“And when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, ‘Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me’” (1 Corinthians 11:24).

“And by His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).

2. Our Identity in Christ

It helps to remember our identity in Christ when we are sick and tempted to think God isn’t hearing our prayer to, “Heal me.” The truth is, we are children of a living God. We carry authority in our prayers, healthy or ill.

God is listening to us. Psalm 91:15

He turns my hardships to glory 2 Cor 4:17

I am wonderfully made Psalm 139:14

He cheers me and lifts me up Psalm 139:14 **

3. We Carry the Resurrection and Life in our Bodies and Bones.

When we receive Jesus in our hearts, He sends the Holy Spirit to live in us. There is life and power in the Holy Spirit who lives in us. Let us ask God to release more of that life and power into our spirits, our souls, and our bodies. People have stories of asking for life and power to get through many a difficult situation with wisdom and strength. Let us also ask God for strength and health for getting through physical illnesses as well. It is not an automatic prayer that gives us instant health. God gives us strength for each day to endure, persevere, and achieve His goals for our lives.

“..that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead” (Philippians 3:10-11).

God Answers Prayer

One woman got her prayer answered for a power wheelchair. It came after several other prayer requests that are ongoing. The answer to this prayer request gives hope that the rest of the prayer requests will get answered.

One man reported that his digestive issues are much improved. His joint pain is also getting better. There are more things on the list. But again, improvement gives hope that God is at work on all things.

One woman came in to pray for an upcoming surgery. At the end of the appointment, there was peace about the process and also great JOY. This was unexpected and welcome.

The prayers requests were for God to act on many issues including insomnia, heart condition, rapid weight gain, scoliosis, caregiving challenges with family members, anxiety, finding a used car, gums receding, hearing loss, trauma relief, memory loss, marriages, and relationship with grown children.
