Allow for the Shaping
No one wants the news that they have cancer, or that a loved one has cancer. No one signs up for divorce. Children aren’t supposed to die before their parents. But these things happen. Every day these chapters get written into our lives. We reach for our faith core in these moments. We ask others to pray for us. We call on God. And we open our Bibles seeking wisdom, counsel, strength, comfort, and help. It can take a while, but eventually we learn to stand in the tide and then swim. From these weak points, we pull on God’s strength. We borrow other people’s faith until ours takes root and begins to grow.
Losing a job represents failure. But what if it’s God’s redirect? Breaking up with a long-term boyfriend or girlfriend leaves the heart broken. But what it is the path to finding a life partner? Taking care of a family member might require a physical move, a career pause, a sacrifice of patience and personal desires, or a dent to the budget. Yet, what if God is doing the asking, and ready to teach us things nothing else could? Ugh. Ouch…Hallelujah. We must choose if we will trust God when bad things happen. Can we turn toward Him or do we run away from God? Can we still praise God? Can we thank Him for the good things in the midst of the challenging things? These are our choices as we walk through our trials to the other side. |
As God brings us through each chapter of life, and especially the challenging ones, they become lesson points. Lesson points grow to build a base of faith and trust, and eventually a platform on which to stand. We know how to stand strong whether we’re going through another storm or a peaceful time. We know we can lean on God at all times. He is trustworthy, even when people let us down, and circumstances seem like a disaster.
We learn that the enemy throws curve balls at our natural gifts and talents from God. Beethoven had serious hearing issues and went deaf, all the while composing music that has lasted through the centuries. Most pastors have a story of someone telling them they had a terrible voice and shouldn’t speak when they were at a young age. Dr. Seuss was rejected by twenty-seven publishers before his first book was published. People overcome poverty, illness, and negative circumstances to pursue their destinies and dreams. This common pattern causes the overcomer to get determined. |
