Worship Before and After

When we don’t feel good, we usually don’t feel like singing. Sometimes we don’t feel like even going outside. It is an extra effort to get up, get ready, and go through the day. And yet, one of the keys to healing is to worship God. Not when we feel better or when we feel like it, but while we are going through the trial and season of not feeling good. The difference gets down to a change in preposition. And behind that, the difference gets down to a choice. It takes a choice to determine to worship God in the midst of our challenges and illnesses, and not after we feel better.

Choosing to worship has several benefits:

  • It invites the power of God into the middle of our situation. “God inhabits the praises of His people” (Psalm 22:3, KJV).
  • The words of worship remind us of truths we might have forgotten. For example: Our God is mighty. Our God is gentle and kind. His timing is perfect, even if we don’t like it.
  • The sound of worship releases a frequency into the atmosphere around us. The atmosphere of a hospital room is not always good and it often comes with uncertainty. Worship songs can put a different frequency into a room. Whatever we felt like before worship, we usually feel better after a few songs of worship have been played.
  • Worship shifts our thinking toward hope. Sickness and bad news can fill us with discouragement and despondency. Worship can shift us to thoughts of hope and peace, especially when our emotions are reflecting bad news. Hope feels more solid when it comes from God. (See Hebrews 11:1)
  • Worship gives us something positive to put in our spirits and hum during the day. We choose what to fill our minds with. Even a small phrase going around in our head can refocus our thoughts. “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things” (Philippians 4:8, NKJV).
  • We praise God for who He is, all the while before we may get the blessing we’re asking for. Getting a blessing and saying, “Thank You” is great. But praise is the choice to praise God for who He is (good, kind, loving, healer, provider, etc). This puts our love into the unconditional love of God category, and not the conditional love category of only praising Him when we get what we want. We get healed because of the unconditional love of God for us. Unconditional love moves us into the covenant relationship. Unconditional love is a better place to battle the spirit of infirmity with whatever symptoms we may be experiencing.

So let us choose to worship God in the midst of our need for healing, and while we wait for our prayers to be answered. We will worship while we are going through our trials and infirmities, and not just after the healing. Worshipping God blesses us as well as God. Together, let us praise God in all things and at all times.

God Answers Prayer

Since our last Healing Rooms Open Hours:

A woman shared her story about getting prayer before surgery for a hysterectomy. She didn’t feel anything at the time. She went in for surgery and was told that they didn’t need to take out the ovaries. And, after a biopsy, they learned there was no cancer, which had been a concern. She felt that these things were a blessing and the answer to her prayer.

A man shared a story about receiving prayer after a diagnosis of hydrops about his baby. (Hydrops fetalis is severe swelling (edema) in an unborn baby or a newborn baby. It is a life-threatening problem.) It was their first baby. He received prayer from the Healing Rooms and many people. It was their first baby, so the diagnosis was extra scary. The stats were not encouraging. The baby was born and survived. But the doctors reported that it was touch and go and would have to stay in the NICU indefinitely. This began days of ongoing prayer. This baby got out in 45 days, which was unheard of. They had originally put the thought in the parents’ mind that it might be months and the baby might not make it at all. Sometimes it is in the ongoing trials of day after day that faith stretches. But the parents called the timing a miracle as they saw estimated forecast after forecast change for the better and the better and the better. They walked between what the doctors were saying (filled with negative statistics and stories before theirs) and what kept happening. Each day was a choice to believe, and they did. The faith of the parents through this trial grew, but it wasn’t a straight path of confident faith. They appreciated the ongoing and supportive prayers of many. They went through high faith days and low faith days. They now know and can now pray for others from a place of confident knowledge of how God did the impossible for their baby.

The teams prayed for anxiety, marriages, dental matters, a broken wrist from pickleball, heart healing, strength to take action, wisdom, childhood trauma, cancer, collapsed lung, diabetes, reinjury to arm, God’s peace and strength, relief from fear and worry, high blood pressure, AFIB symptoms, rapid heartbeat, perseverance and endurance, life direction, whether to move or not, relationship with adult children, legal court cases, faith renewal, breakthrough in circumstances, counteracting witchcraft, workplace challenges, a new place to live, coping with the loss of a loved one, caring for a loved one, financial breakthrough, sciatica, and a hearing injury from an accident several years ago.
