How to get Peace in our Lives

Lots of people come to the Healing Rooms with stress and anxiety over very real issues. The goal is to reach peace. Peace comes with the confidence that God is with us in our situation, and with God, we can get through anything. Some people ask for the steps, “Just tell me what to do.” Whereas peace can not be reduced to an exact formula, the Bible does talk about how to get to peace.
First the Bible tells us how to train our minds in what to think about. The human mind can trend toward the world of negative possibilities. “What if this happens, or that happens?” The mind can take us to dark places. And it doesn’t help that news stories and TV drama shows often feed on these possibilities. It’s an exercise of will to force the mind to consider the opposite. What if something positive happens? What would God’s blessing plan look like?
The Bible is not silent on the topic of peace. It outlines a plan on how to get there. Philippians 4:4-9 has a “How To Get to Peace” revealed inside these verses. It’s not easy, but it points the way.

- “Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, take pleasure in Him]” (v.4, AMP). This invitation speaks to spending time with God and getting familiar with who He is. No matter how our life circumstances may feel, it helps to get a longer-term perspective on how God operates in history by reading the Bible. It’s not a rosy picture at all times. But God’s love, justice, commitment to mankind, and promises stand the test of time.
- “In everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God” (v.6, AMP). Pray about everything! God appreciates honesty. Even if you’re angry at God, tell him. Prayer is about keeping the dialogue open and flowing. Ask God the tough questions, even the “Why?” questions. He may not answer right away, but the questions stay on the table for future responses. And ask more than one question. We are invited to ask all our questions. God may answer some of the sidenote questions before He answers the big questions. Often our faith can build on the answers to the smaller questions. One lady’s faith leapt when she found a lost earring with huge sentimental value she had asked to find in prayer, while she waited on answers to her prayer requests regarding issues in lives of her children.
- “Think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].” (v.8, AMP). What things? Whatever is true. Whatever is honorable and worthy of respect. Whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word. Whatever is pure and wholesome. Whatever is lovely and brings peace. Whatever is admirable and of good repute. Whatever is worthy of excellent praise.
Whenever there’s a long list like this of “whatevers,” start with one, and get that firmly situated. Then add another “whatever” to the thinking process. Thinking on lovely things, pure things, wholesome things. These are plumb lines. And then they are guardrails for not going down slippery thought slopes that lead to stress and anxiety. Asking God what Scripture says about a topic and letting that truth challenge our thoughts is another step of adding a guardrail to our thinking patterns.
Operating in these guidelines invites God to be with us. God’s presence brings peace and well-being. Letting His promises have space in our minds, along with the worries, brings Him into the midst of our live circumstances. Praise allows the truth of who God is to become as real as our situation. Praise and experiences with God allow God’s truths to become more real, more dependable that our challenges. Learning to trust God at all times is a process. Trust is part of developing faith.
Consider the woman who had had a bleeding condition for 12 years. She was shunned from public places. She had spent all her money on medical expenses. She had probably lived on the teeter-totter of hope for years. But she had one thought in her mind: “If I just touch His clothing, I will get well” (Mark 5:28). And in fact, this focused thinking brought the healing to her body when she touched his clothing. Upon discovery, Jesus said to her, “’Daughter, your faith [your personal trust and confidence in Me] has made you well. God in peace (untroubled, undisturbed well-being)’” (Luke 8:48, AMP).
For many, learning how to think positively is a major overhaul. It starts with letting the simplicity of one truth about God rule in our minds. Jehovah Rapha is our Healer (see Exodus 15:26). He cares about us (more than a cared-for sparrow) (see Matthew 10:29-31). He goes before us (see Isaiah 45:2). God doesn’t set us up for failure (see Phil 1:6). If He calls us, He will provide the resources (see 2 peter 1:3). He has a plan for our lives (see Jeremiah 29:11). With God, all things are possible (see Matthew 19:26).
Getting to peace starts with realigning our thinking. Let us start with one new truth and build on that truth until it brings faith. Let that faith be the bedrock of confidence in God. And let that confidence bring His peace to our lives.
God Answers Prayer
Since our last Healing Rooms Open Hours:
One woman’s pain went from a 5 to a 1. She felt encouraged, comforted, and inspired. She feels like she is moving forward in a new direction.

One woman came seeking direction. All of the team members had received encouraging words about direction for her. One saw her driving and trying to get around a large vehicle in front of her and pass it. Often visions and dreams with cars are about ministries. This woman had been part of a large ministry for a number of years and was trying to move out from under its shadow and align with a smaller ministry that offered her flexibility. She was very encouraged.
One lady came in going through a very ugly divorce. She came on the suggestion of a relative, but she didn’t know what to expect. She received compassion and very accurate prophetic words. She was amazed at the tenderness with which they prayed asking God for blessing and healing for many years of not being treated well. She left with a lot to think about, and huge smile on her face. She felt loved by God in the midst of the appointment.
The teams prayed for issues around anxiety, marriages, dental matters, heart healing, strength to take action, wisdom, childhood trauma, cancer, collapsed lung, diabetes, fibromyalgia, God’s peace and strength, relief from fear and worry, high blood pressure, AFIB symptoms, rapid heartbeat, perseverance and endurance, life direction, whether to move or not, relationship with adult children, disagreements with neighbors, faith renewal, breakthrough in circumstances, counteracting witchcraft, workplace challenges, settling in to a new place to live, caring for a loved one, financial breakthrough, sciatica, sleep disorders, and trauma relief.
