Fasting Chaos

Some people do a Dry January, refraining from drinking any alcohol, for health reasons. Some people do a cleansing fast of some kind to reset the body. Some people do a twenty-one day fast for spiritual reasons. This might include abstaining from certain foods, or limiting cell phone usage, or even media. It’s hard to fast media with all that is going on in the nation this January. This year I learned about a new fast:  fasting “chaos.” My girlfriend who decided to fast “chaos” is a mother of five, and a grandmother to eight grandchildren. She has seen many a crisis in her day.

The “chaos” fast is about choosing a different response to news of a crisis unfolding. She calls it going a different way. She resists panic and forces herself to check in with God first before responding. She doesn’t speak until she hears from God and then says what He says about the situation. Turning away from the natural emotional responses to chaos (often anxiety, dread, fright, or terror), she seeks peace in calling to mind that God has a plan through everything, and He already knew that the crisis was going to happen, and has a way through it. It’s running to God and not away from Him.

When we look at what God did when there was no form and darkness and void in Genesis 1:1-3, He spoke. What He said was, “Let there be light.” Part of the fast is to respond to unformatted things, and to dark situations, and to voids—by speaking. Just like God. We can say what God did, “Let there be light.” Part of the fast is to practice saying, “Let there be light to this situation,” and the next situation, and to every challenge that faces us. Genesis 1:3 ends with, “and there was light.” Advanced declarations to practice include revoking permission for chaos to operate in our circumstances. We can say, “We establish Shalom.” Shalom is the Hebrew word for peace. Based on a literal translation of each letter, one scholar translates shalom more like a verb, “to destroy the authority that binds us to chaos.” Most people think peace is the absence of war. But shalom is about using our delegated authority to destroy the chaos powers at work behind a situation.

Lastly, fasting chaos is about choosing a different way to navigate. It is about seeking the presence of God and growing close to the heart of the Father through the Holy Spirit. God gives us grace to meet every situation and manage through it. We can resist the panic and emotions that often accompany crisis and unknown situations with confidence that God’s got a plan for good in the middle of everything. We can choose to hold His hand and move forward as He leads. This is a year to abide and advance. Along the way, in the midst of our circumstances, miracles are happening. As we move forward, let us look for miracles along the path.

God Answers Prayer

Since our last Healing Rooms Open Hours:

One woman’s pain went from a 5 to a 1.  She felt encouraged, comforted, and inspired. She feels like she is moving forward in a new direction.

One woman came seeking direction. All of the team members had received encouraging words about direction for her. One saw her driving and trying to get around a large vehicle in front of her and pass it. Often visions and dreams with cars are about ministries. This woman had been part of a large ministry for a number of years and was trying to move out from under its shadow and align with a smaller ministry that offered her flexibility. She was very encouraged.

One lady came in going through a very ugly divorce. She came on the suggestion of a relative, but she didn’t know what to expect. She received compassion and very accurate prophetic words. She was amazed at the tenderness with which they prayed asking God for blessing and healing for many years of not being treated well. She left with a lot to think about, and huge smile on her face. She felt loved by God in the midst of the appointment.

The teams prayed for issues around anxiety, marriages, dental matters, heart healing, strength to take action, wisdom, childhood trauma, cancer, collapsed lung, diabetes, fibromyalgia, God’s peace and strength, relief from fear and worry, high blood pressure, AFIB symptoms, rapid heartbeat, perseverance and endurance, life direction, whether to move or not, relationship with adult children, disagreements with neighbors, faith renewal, breakthrough in circumstances, counteracting witchcraft, workplace challenges, settling in to a new place to live, caring for a loved one, financial breakthrough, sciatica, sleep disorders, and trauma relief.
